Giving to Student Counseling Services

Serving the University community since 1932, our programs address a wide range of issues impacting student success including mental health and life concerns, difficulties with learning and academic skills, and choice of majors/career uncertainty. Services offered include free individual and group counseling, classes, workshops/presentations, consultation to faculty and staff on issues related to student success and campus safety, and a training program for University of Minnesota and other graduate students specializing in college counseling. Student Counseling Services (SCS) welcomes donations to any of its four endowment funds:

  • The Theta Hagenah Endowed Fund supports the SCS Training Program by providing funds for SCS doctoral level trainees to attend conferences and participate in other specialized training relevant to college counseling.
  • The SCS Program Developmental Fund funds special projects designed to further enhance SCS program effectiveness. Your donation will support continued development of web-based and social media projects to communicate information about student success topics in a manner students are more likely to access. Other projects supported by this fund include translation of mental health and student success information into different language to support immigrant and international students, and supporting special-topic professional development training for staff from SCS and other University programs. The fund may also be used for equipment and supplies for targeted program improvements, where other budget options would not readily be available.
  • The Active Minds Fund supports Active Minds, a student organization sponsored by SCS whose goal is to empower students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking. Active Minds is changing the culture on campuses and in the community by providing information, leadership opportunities and advocacy training to the next generation. Your donation supports student-run education programs and public displays.
